The Coney Island casino proposal from New York real estate giant Thor Equities in a consortium that includes Saratoga Casino Holdings, the Chickasaw Nation, and Legends Hospitality has a name — “The Coney.”

“The Coney Island Casino is going to help revitalize an area in desperate need of a boost, and we are looking forward to sharing our vision for a year-round entertainment venue that’s going to create jobs and economic growth with the community and the rest of New York,” Thor COO Melissa Gliatta said in a statement.

The gaming facility both spruces up and seamlessly blends in with the existing Coney Island boardwalk, said Robert Cornegy, the former Brooklyn councilman who is a consultant with the consortium.

“This project represents Brooklyn’s next big moment, and I can’t think of a better place for a world-class entertainment venue than right here in Coney Island.”

An opportunity is on the horizon that could make great headway when it comes to ensuring career growth and economic prosperity for Black New Yorkers: a casino and, and with it, year-round employment possibilities in Coney Island.
